2. The remote employee

So, you want to start hiring remotely. You probably know very well what kind of qualifications your ideal candidate should have. At the same time, you need to bear in mind some traits that the candidate needs to have to successfully work in a remote environment.

First, communication. Since you will be communicating mostly through chat, video and audio calls, your ideal candidate needs really strong communication skills. Second, they need to be highly self-disciplined and not require you to hold their hand to get the job done.

Moreover, they need to be very organized, since they will be in charge of their own work. Additionally, the candidate should work effectively in a team environment, even if it is a virtual one.

If you have a test project or homework for the potential candidate, they need to go above and beyond and show dedication to your application. You want someone who knows how to do the job, but also someone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and go the extra mile to get that job done.

Speaking of which, the candidate should show passion for your company and the position. If a candidate is passionate about working remotely, living the nomadic lifestyle, traveling while working - they are more excited about the remote aspect of the role than the role itself. This is a red flag and you should take it into consideration when making your hiring decisions.
